Defensive back Fred Bennett avoided the open market on Monday by signing a new deal with the Calgary Stampeders. Set to become a free agent on February 15, the 29-year-old Bennett will remain in Red and White through the 2016 season. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. "Fred has been a reliable player and an important contributor to our defence as well as to our special teams since he joined the Stampeders two years ago," said general manager and head coach John Hufnagel.
